Businesses must meet the following requirements:

• Located within the designated revitalization corridor
• Maintain an active City of Englewood business license at the time of application and maintain in perpetuity
• Be in good standing with city zoning, sales tax remittance and code requirements

Auto-Oriented Businesses

• Auto-oriented businesses are eligible to apply; however, grant funding for these businesses is limited to landscaping improvements that bring the property into better alignment with city requirements.

Ineligible Businesses/Organizations
 
• Religious organizations
• Political organizations

Ineligible Uses of Funds

• Window bars or restrictive security features
• Rent, business license, mortgage, or tax payments
• Payroll
• Subscription services, contracts, or recurring software fees
• Processing fees
• Inventory purchases
• One-time and ongoing operational costs

Eligible businesses located within the Englewood South corridor shown below may apply for the flexible improvement grant.

Applications will be evaluated based on how strongly the proposed improvement contributes to corridor revitalization. Priority will generally be given in the following order:

Tier 1 – Permanent Corridor Improvements (Highest Priority)

Improvements that create long-term visual and structural benefits to the corridor.  Examples include, but are not limited to:

• Façade upgrades (awnings, façade repairs, architectural features, modifications to the exterior of the building)
• Landscaping improvements 
• Permanent exterior signage

Tier 2 – Semi-Permanent Exterior Improvements & Safety

Improvements that activate storefronts and improve the visual environment.  Examples include, but are not limited to:

• Merchandise display areas 
• Outdoor seating 
• Exterior lighting
• Security cameras
• Vacant storefront activations (window clings, temporary displays, partner installations) 
• Murals / Exterior painting

Tier 3 – Corridor Activation Events

Events may be funded when they help draw customers and activate the corridor. Event funding is capped at $500. Events may be combined with other eligible improvements as part of a larger grant request up to the program maximum of $5,000.

Additional Eligible Funding Considerations

 Maximum grant funding for each property/business may not exceed $5,000 for one or more of the tiers noted above, with the maximum grant for events not exceeding $500. 

The city recognizes that businesses often have creative ideas for improving their operations or customer experience.  Applicants may propose additional improvement ideas that are not listed above, provided they:

• Are one-time costs 
• Are not ongoing operational expenses 
• Directly support customer experience, corridor vitality, or business capacity

Examples include, but are not limited to, professional service fees associated with the project.  The city encourages businesses to propose thoughtful projects that help strengthen the corridor.

Application Process

• Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis.
• Applications submitted by July 31, 2026 will receive priority consideration during this pilot funding round.
• Funding will be awarded until available program funds are exhausted.

Application Narrative

Applicants must submit a short, written response explaining their project and how it will support the corridor and their business.

The response should answer the following questions, with a limit of 300 words for each question.
