Children and Teen Summer Reading 2026

Summer Reading Registration (ages 0 to 18)

May 28 - August 23

Starting Thursday May 28th you can come to the library to register for Summer Reading and pick up your reading records. Every child or teen that completes the reading challenge will receive a free book.

Read books, magazines, graphic novels or listen to audio books - the sky is the limit!

Following are the Reading Programs available this summer:

Early Literacy (0 to 12 months)

Children (1 to 11 years)

The Children's Summer Reading Program is for children ages 1 to 11 years old*.

Children who complete the 10 hours of reading will receive a free book. Need some incentive along the way? Stop by the library and get 1 small prizes for every 2 hours read.

Reading includes reading on your own, being read to, reading to others and listening to audio books.

Note: We will NOT be giving prizes for 2nd reading records this summer. However, Englewood Elementary students may return as many NON-PRIZE records as they would like to have counted toward the trophy.

All prizes must be picked up by Sunday August 23rd

* Children who are 11 but will be going into middle school in the fall have the option to do the children's program or the teen program.

Bonus Adventure Challenge (1 to 11 years)

This summer's Bonus Challenge includes reading a book and doing an activity. For example, you might read a book about dinosaurs and then go to the Museum of Nature and Science. You could read a book about volcanoes and then make a volcano at home. We don't care what you read about or what activities you choose. When you read a book, mark off a green egg. When you complete an activity, mark off a purple egg. Once all 16 eggs are marked complete, come into the library to pick up your bonus prize.

Prizes must be picked up by Sunday August 23rd.

We are planning a lot of fun programs for children, tweens and teens this summer.

Storytime

Monday at 10:30 a.m. in the Library- All Ages Welcome
Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in the Library - All Ages Welcome
Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. in the Library - Preschool Plus (ages 3 to 7)
Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. in the Library - Babies Only (ages 0 to 18 months)
Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in the Library - All Ages Welcome
Friday at 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. in Local Parks - All Ages Welcome

Friday Storytime will rotate through local parks. Just arrive at the park at whichever time works best for you. Please bring a blanket to sit on.

Monday Kids Animated Movies – Children's Area at 2 p.m.

Get out of the heat and join us for fun "Color" themed animated kids movies every Monday afternoon.

Tuesday Kids "Dinosaur Eras Tour" – Community Room (2nd Floor of the Civic Center) at 2 p.m.

Come explore the eras of the Dinosaurs! Each week will cover a different time period of the Mezazoic Era. We will start with information about our host dinosaur of the era. After the story, there will be science, crafts, snacks, a service project and Glam Stations! We will also have our ever popular sensory table and a bucket of dinosaur puppets! Feel free to wear your best dinosaur outfits each week. NOTE: Due to the popularity of this program it will be held in the Community Room on the 2nd Floor of the Englewood Civic Center.

Wednesday Live Kids Performers - Community Room (2nd Floor of the Civic Center) at 2 p.m.

Friday Lego Open Play - Storytime Room at 2 p.m.

Join us in the storytime room on the following Fridays for Lego Open Play. Children under 5 years old must have an adult present. NOTE: This year we are going to display Lego creations for one week. Each child will be given a small base to create on, when it is completed they can submit it for display.

Tweens (ages 8 to 11)

Tuesday Teen Hangouts – Teen Room at 5-7 p.m.

Join us for weekly hangouts in our teen room. Activities include Switch Games, Board Games and Crafts. Activities are for teens in middle school or high school only.

Friday After Hours Teen Programs – Library at 6 p.m.

Join us for some after hours fun at the library every Friday this summer. Activities are for teens ages 12 to 18. This is an after hours program so please drop off and pick up on the garage side of the library. If you have questions or want the registration link, please email englewoodteen@gmail.com
