A current council member won the 2025 mayoral race, which resulted in a vacancy for the District 1 seat. In accordance with the Englewood City Charter, in the event of a vacancy, the remaining council members shall appoint a duly qualified individual to fill the position by a supermajority vote (five out of six members) within 30 days. No consensus was made at the December 15 city council meeting. On Monday, January 5, city council officially called for a special election. The election will take place on Tuesday, April 7.  

This position’s term expires in December 2027.

  • January 6 - 26: Nomination petitions are circulated for interested candidates.
  • April 7: Anticipated Special Election Day.

Candidate Qualifications

At the time of the election, a candidate must be a citizen of the United States, be 25 years of age or older and a registered elector of the city for at least one year immediately preceding the election. Council members elected by districts must also be residents and registered electors of their districts. Candidates are required to sign an affidavit as to qualifications. No council member shall hold any other public office or employment for which compensation is paid from any municipality.

  2. File your candidate affidavit and committee registration form with the City Clerk's Office located at 1000 Englewood Pkwy, 3rd floor. 
  3. Beginning January 6, circulate your nomination petition and gather 50 signatures from District 1 registered electors. *Only petitions obtained from the Englewood City Clerk’s office may be circulated. 
  4. Turn in your nomination petitions no later than January 26 by 5 p.m.
