Why do we have Code Compliance?

Answer: The role of Code Compliance is to maintain and enhance the appearance of residential and business properties throughout the City of Englewood. 

How does Code Compliance work?

Answer:  There are four Code Compliance Officers who routinely patrol the city to ensure that properties are in compliance with municipal codes. If a violation is found, Code Compliance will try to contact the resident and make them aware of the problem. The resident will be given a specific amount of time, usually 7 days, to correct the violation. If the problem is not resolved within the allotted time frame, the resident may be issued a Summons and Complaint to Municipal Court.

I recently received a Notice of Violation for a Code violation. Is this the same thing as getting a ticket?

Answer: No, a Notice of Violation is a written warning to the owner/resident that there is a violation of one or more city ordinances. If the violation has not been corrected after seven days, a Posting Notice is then issued. If the property is still in violation, the owner/resident may then be issued a Summons and Complaint into Municipal Court.
