Call for Artists 

The City of Englewood's Signal Wrap project is designed to help build a sense of community ownership while discouraging graffiti and other acts of vandalism and to promote neighborhood identity.

The city is looking to commission artists/teams to aesthetically transform traffic signal boxes from functional infrastructure to colorful and dynamic works of art.

Selected artists will receive a $500 stipend.

Theme

The theme of "Uniquely Englewood" celebrates everything that makes Englewood a special place to live, work and play. Artists are encouraged to draw inspiration from the unique features of the community, such as its small-town atmosphere, diverse restaurants, expansive parks and lively downtown.

Submission Guidelines

Signal wraps may be considered when designed per the following criteria:

Submission Criteria

• Keep in mind a seamless design that goes across all sides of the cabinet.
• Set up your artwork in a landscape/horizontal format.
• Be mindful of visibility and readability. Design elements that stand out from a distance work best, considering the speeds of vehicles passing by.
• Art must be two-dimensional and translatable to a digital image.
• Images of the artwork should be at least 300 DPI resolution and at least 1980x1334 px in size.
• A maximum of three artworks may be submitted by any one artist or team.
• The artwork must be pleasing and add beauty to the community.
• The artwork cannot contain business promotions or advertisements.
• The artwork cannot include any breach of intellectual property, brands, trademarks or depictions of illegal activity.
• The artwork must be family-friendly.
• No AI created artwork will be accepted.
• Accepted file types: .pdf, .jpeg, .jpg, .png
• Local Englewood artists are preferred.
• If an artist already as an installed traffic cabinet wrap they are still welcome to apply but preference will be given to artists that do not already have an installed wrap.

Vinyl Wraps

Chosen artworks will be printed on high-quality vinyl wraps. This vinyl wrap will cover the traffic box on all sides. Submitted designs must work in a continuous flow in order to cover the box in its entirety.

Template

Apply the artwork to the provided cabinet template so the committee can see the ideal orientation for the artwork on the traffic cabinet.

Selection Process

All design submissions will be reviewed and selected on its artistic merit, creativity and overall impact on the community. The committee reserves the right to reject any or all entries at any time in the review and selection process.

Application Requirements

• Please submit the following:
  • Full-color image of the artwork at at least 300 DPI resolution and at least 1980x1334 px in size.
  • Submission application, including a short description of the design
  • Accepted file types: .pdf, .jpeg, .jpg, .png
  • Optional: Apply the artwork to the provided cabinet template so the committee can see the ideal orientation for the artwork on the traffic cabinet.

Site Selection

The City of Englewood will select the site location for the winning submissions. If you have a specific location in mind for your artwork, then please add that information to your submission.

Downtown Englewood Site Selection

Artists proposing artwork for a traffic cabinet within the Englewood Downtown District should consider the cabinet’s specific location and surrounding businesses, history, activities, and physical setting. Proposed artwork should be place-based and strengthen Downtown Englewood’s unique identity, character, and sense of place. Artists will be asked to briefly explain how their design connects to Downtown Englewood and why it is meaningful and appropriate for the proposed location.
