If you receive a traffic citation or a summons from the Englewood Police Department, it is important to respond quickly. Taking care of a ticket on time protects your driving record and helps you avoid additional fees or legal consequences.
When you receive a citation, you are directed either to pay a fine or to appear in court on a scheduled date. If you are cited for a traffic infraction and do not pay the fine or contact the court within 30 days of the violation, additional fees begin.
A default letter is mailed on day 31 and includes a $20 fee. By day 39, the case may be entered as a default judgment, meaning you are convicted of the original charge and assessed the fine, along with a $25 fee. If the balance remains unpaid for 60 more days, the case may be sent to collections, adding a 25% fee.
If you are cited for a traffic offense or criminal action, failing to appear in court can result in a warrant for your arrest and a $50 warrant fee.
Residents are encouraged to contact the court if they have questions or financial barriers. Programs such as Restorative Justice and Court Navigation may help. Fines can also be paid online here.
