Englewood is making major investments to strengthen its raw water system and improve the taste, odor and hardness of the drinking water. A key project has been the City Ditch Piping Project. Construction crews spent the winter piping three of the four remaining reaches of open-channel.

The work included:

• Installing more than 4,700 feet of pipe.
• Enclosing remaining open channel in a section south of Englewood that was primarily piped by developers.
• Structurally improving two elevated water channels.
• Cleaning sediment and debris out of over 850 ft. of existing pipe.
• Rerouting a stormwater inlet to prevent storm runoff from entering the city’s water supply.
• Adding five new access manholes to improve system access and maintenance on previously piped sections of the ditch.

City Ditch is back online for the summer, with water flowing to the treatment plant and other users along the ditch.
