Dig Into Summer Reading

Post Date:05/04/2026

It’s a Tuesday in the summer at 2 p.m., which means it’s the Dinosaur ERAS Tour at the library! Walk upstairs to the Community Room, and you will hear laughter, singing and the patter of little feet.

Starting in 2018, a Summer Reading tradition was hatched with Tuesday Parties. Ms. Kimberly and the Englewood Public Library’s children’s team stand at the center of the fun capturing the kids’ attention with stories, treats and themed activities. Following the 2026 Summer Reading theme of “Unearth A Story,” each week kids will explore a different period within the Mesozoic Era. It is going to be Dino-mite!

Looking for a way to give back to the community after the COVID-19 pandemic, the children’s team brought in a service element to the program. This year, kids will be making tie blankets to donate to a local foster care program, helping young children connect with their community in a different way.

The buildup to Summer Reading starts in May, when Ms. Kimberly visits every Englewood Schools elementary class in the month of May to get kids excited for the summer. The school with the most students to finish their summer reading goal also wins the coveted “Summer Reading Trophy.” In late May, kids eagerly scramble into the library to pick up their reading logs and join in on the daily activities and programs. Familiar faces emerge as older kids come with their younger siblings to the programs they enjoyed in years past.
