Rick Somerson has been elected to represent District 1 on the Englewood City Council following the April 7 special election.
According to official results, Somerson received 726 votes, while Matt Crabtree received 624 votes. The special election was called to fill a vacancy created when a sitting council member was elected mayor in 2025. After no appointment was made by city council, council called for a special election on January 5. The District 1 seat's term expires in December 2027.
Somerson currently serves on Englewood’s Code Enforcement Advisory Committee and works as director of marketing and communications for the Denver Health Foundation. His background includes communications and marketing roles with Denver Public Schools, the Children’s Museum of Denver, UC Santa Barbara, Harvard University and the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.
He holds a Bachelor of Science in management studies from Boston University.
