City crews are addressing a pothole that formed in the eastbound left lane of Oxford Avenue just east of Santa Fe Drive, beneath the pedestrian bridge. To allow for safe repairs, the eastbound left lane of Oxford will be closed until the area can be permanently repaired next week.
The pothole formed in the exposed road base along a saw-cut edge in the pavement following recent rain. It is approximately one foot wide and a few inches deep.
This is not a sinkhole and is not related to underground infrastructure. Previous sinkholes in this area were caused by failing stormwater pipes, which were replaced as part of the South Englewood Flood Reduction Project completed in 2025.
The area is scheduled to be permanently patched with asphalt as part of the project’s regular paving schedule next week.
Drivers should plan for minor delays and merge into the right lane when traveling eastbound on Oxford near Santa Fe.
